Climate impact

Doing useful work shouldn't have to cost the earth.

The things we build aren't weightless.

AI uses energy. Emails need servers. Automations run in the cloud. Websites need somewhere to live.

So once a quarter, we work out the environmental impact of what we do as best as anyone reasonably can, and fund climate action through Ecologi to compensate for it.

The awkward bit

Nobody really knows the exact number.

There's no neat little carbon counter attached to an AI prompt, an automated workflow or a million sales emails.

Different providers use different infrastructure. Energy sources change. Usage varies. And plenty of the numbers you'll find online are estimates themselves.

So we're not going to pretend ours are perfect either.

We'll use the best information we can find, make reasonable assumptions and, where there's uncertainty, give ourselves some breathing room.

What we count

If it uses something, we'll try to account for it.

AI

Model usage, AI development, agents, generated content and the computing behind the tools we build.

Email

Campaigns, outreach and transactional email. If we're responsible for sending it, we'll include it.

Automation

Workflows, APIs, integrations and the cloud services quietly doing jobs while everyone's asleep.

Websites

Hosting, bandwidth, deployments, storage and the infrastructure behind the sites and tools we build.

Software

The third party platforms and cloud services that form part of our day to day work.

The real world

Travel, equipment and anything else we can reasonably measure without disappearing down a spreadsheet for three weeks.

How we're doing it

Estimate it. Add a bit. Offset it.

01

Measure

Once a quarter, we review the activity we can actually see, such as AI credits, emails sent, services used, hosting and other relevant business activity.

02

Estimate

We use published data and sensible assumptions to turn that activity into an estimated carbon footprint. Where the numbers aren't exact, we deliberately err on the cautious side.

03

Overcompensate

We'd rather offset too much than congratulate ourselves for being precisely wrong.

At the end of each quarter, we'll fund climate action through Ecologi against that estimated impact.

Our impact

This bit's harder to argue with.

For our clients

You don't need to feel guilty about making things work better.

If sending 100,000 emails makes a process better, we'll send them.

If AI can remove hours of repetitive work, we'll use it.

If an automation needs to run thousands of times a month, that's fine too.

The answer isn't to stop using useful technology.

It's to understand that it has an impact and do something about it.

You get the benefit of the work.
We'll worry about the footprint.

We'll keep getting better at this.

Every quarter, we'll review our impact, update the numbers and offset what we believe we're responsible for.

Our methodology will change as better data becomes available.

Our assumptions will change when we find better evidence.

And our Ecologi impact will keep growing as we account for more of the work we do.

We're not claiming to have sustainability cracked.

We're just refusing to ignore it.
